GEORGE LOPEZ is the Artist in Residence and Symphony Orchestra Artist Director and Conductor at Bowdoin College in Maine. Renowned for his “kaleidoscopic colors and clarity of conception” (Los Angeles Times), he is celebrated for his sophisticated and artfully curated interpretations. His debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam was described as “authentic and memorable” by the Nederlands Dagblad for his masterful performances of Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Chopin’s Preludes. Lopez’s extensive repertoire is both broad and deep, encompassing the complete sonatas of Mozart, piano concertos of Beethoven, all Etude-Tableaux of Rachmaninoff, all Etudes and Ballades of Chopin, and recently the entire four-volume set of Bach’s Klavierübungen, performed on organ, harpsichord, and piano. His performances have captivated audiences around the world, including Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia, and throughout the United States, with appearances at esteemed venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, and Ambassador Hall in Los Angeles. GULIMINA MAHAMUTI is the first Uyghur from China to receive a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the United States, where she studied at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Her early admission at age 15 as a gifted high school piano major to Northwest University for Nationalities in China marked the beginning of a distinguished career. Dr. Mahamuti holds two Master of Music degrees, one in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Harbin Normal University School of Music, and the other in Piano Performance from Pittsburg State University, where she graduated with the highest distinction, the Graduate Dean Academic Honors. Dr. Mahamuti’s journey as a concert pianist has been featured in various Chinese newspapers and television programs, culminating in a two-part documentary titled “Conversations with Dr. Gulimina Mahamuti” that aired on Karamay City’s Public Television Network. Her life story was the subject of a Chinese documentary on the Gansu Province Public Television Network. Dr. Mahamuti made her Carnegie Hall debut in New York City at Weill Recital Hall, and her international performances have taken her to prestigious venues in Montreal, Copenhagen, Istanbul, and Budapest (at the invitation of the Turkish Ambassador), as well as across the United States and China. As a soloist, she performed piano concerti with the Southeast Kansas Symphony Orchestra, the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, and the Harbin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. Her music has also been featured on radio programs such as San Francisco’s classical music stations, Queens College/CUNY podcast, China Touch Radio, and Istanbul Technical University Radio. In addition to her performance career, Dr. Mahamuti is a dedicated educator currently teaching at Bowdoin College. She has previously held teaching positions at Ohio Wesleyan University, Capital University, and the School of Music of Northwest University for Nationalities in China. She published articles in Clavier Companion and released a CD titled Xinjiang Piano Music from Western China, highlighting her commitment to promoting diverse musical traditions. A two-term member of the MTNA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, Dr. Mahamuti organized the Pedagogy Saturday’s DEI Track at the 2024 National Conference in Atlanta. She recently accepted the nomination as the 2025-2027 Vice President of the MTNA Representation and Advocacy Committee, where she will continue to champion inclusive practices in music education and performance.
